PISA report on the academic performance and well-being of students with an immigrant background has been published
On the 19th of March, the report titled “Resilience of Students with an Immigrant Background: Factors that Shape Well-Being” was published. The report analyses how students with an immigrant background perform at school academically, socially, and emotionally across several countries. The report also explores the role the education systems, schools, teachers, and parents can play in helping these students succeed at school and society at large.

A new toolkit to help strengthen national careers and lifelong learning
The European Commission has published a toolkit to help public employment services to assess needs and strengthen the career guidance and lifelong learning system and services. It answers questions such as “Which services should be offered to people at different ages?”

EU wants 1 million new scientific researchers
The European Union(EU) has plans to grow its research industry over the upcoming ten years. In 2009 there were already 1.58 million full-time researchers in the EU. Over the next decade, the EU would like to attract an additional one million researchers. In order to attract also non-European researchers, the Scientific Visa was introduced. This Visa helps researchers obtain permission to enter, stay and work in the EU.

The voting for the European Citizens’ Award within the Natura 2000 Award scheme is now open! The Natura 2000 Award is designed to reward excellence in the management and maintenance of Natura 2000 sites and showcase the added value of the network for local economies and communities. It pays tribute to all who work tirelessly to make Natura 2000 a success, whilst drawing public attention to its achievements.

International Essay Contest for young people!
The GOI Peace Foundation is organising their annual Essay Contest again, with this year’s theme being “The change I want to make”. Within this theme, you will write about what you would most like to change in school, workplace, community, or even the world, and how you would go about making that change.

The gates of the monuments are wide open in Czech cities!
Starting on the 1st of April, the gates of the monuments are wide open across the Czech Republic! Member cities will participate in the international day of monuments and historical seats to open the gates f the monuments. There will also be a range of exhibitions, concerts, and lectures.

Submit your video for the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival!
The United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) are organising the PLURAL+ Youth Video Festival. They invite all young people up to 25 years old, to submit a 5-minute video about migration, diversity and social inclusion. You can participate alone or in a group, as long as you and all the members of the group are of maximum 25 years of age at the time of the production of the video.

Municipalities: register now for #Wifi4EU!
The European Commission (EC) has launched the #Wifi4EU initiative. Through this initiative, municipalities can now register for EU financing of free wireless internet hotspots in public places such as libraries, parks and public buildings! But be quick, the initiative is on a first come, first serve basis!
