Description: The course aims to introduce participants to Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) principles and techniques and show them how to apply them in practice.  During the course, participants will learn about 5Cs principles of CLIL, terminology, integration of four language skills, scaffolding strategies, where to find and how to develop their own materials, assessment and much more.

The course is suitable for all educators that would like to refresh their English language skills and gain practical knowledge and learn how to implement CLIL methodology in their lessons.

Daily Programme

Monday

  • Welcome and introductions
  • Individual expectations, setting objectives for the week
  • A short presentation about Irish culture and the English language
  • Features of CLIL, active methods and cooperative classroom management styles
  • CLIL’s emphasis on linguistic communication, visual, communication, kinaesthetic communication & what that means for teachers and learners

Tuesday

  • Question and Answer session for clarification of information discussed on day 1
  • Scaffolding in a CLIL classroom -when to provide it and when to remove it
  • Mediating teachers’ language confidence and students’ learner autonomy in a CLIL class
  • Being comfortable with a new teacher identity and giving students more control of their learning

Wednesday

  • Question and Answer session for clarification of information discussed on day 2
  • Lesson planning & CLIL- having the cogs of the 5 c’s all moving at the same time
  • When one of the five C’s of CLIL is out of sync-what happens to the CLIL lesson? Impact on teachers and students.

Thursday

  • Question and Answer session for clarification of information discussed on day 3
  • Introducing the CLIL European framework for teacher education & using the framework as a tool for reflection
  • CLIL European framework for teacher education, methodology & assessment & CLIL management

Friday

  • Summary and course evaluation
  • Feedback & certificates
  • Cultural excursion in the local area
Competences Acquired by Participants

By the end of the course, delegates will:

  • Improve writing, pronunciation and reading skills in English
  • Increase awareness of the current trends in CLIL
  • Learn the key principles of CLIL and techniques
  • Be able to find existing and develop their own material for CLIL lessons
  • Be able to plan and implement CLIL lesson
  • Feel confident to use CLIL methods in classrooms and teaching through a foreign language

  • Europass mobility certificates – to be issued by the applicant’s NA

Please note that ‘All in one – single room’ and ‘All in one – double room’ packages are being offered in all locations except London, Dublin, Barcelona, Athens, Porto, Lyon, Split and Pisa, where we have only the ‘Basic’ course package.

       1. ‘ALL IN ONE – Single room’ PACKAGE - 1240€

      2. ‘ALL IN ONE – Double Room Sharing’ PACKAGE- 1040€

  • Tuition fee and training material
  • Certificate of Competence
  • Welcome dinner
  • Accommodation - double room sharing in a 3 or 4-star hotel (6 nights)
  • Full Board (5 days)
  • Administration costs
  • Coffee Breaks
  • Cultural visit

*Choose double room sharing if you are 2 colleagues from the same organisation willing to share a double room/ or if you have any accompanying person travelling to the venue of the course together with you (we can arrange the accommodation for accompanying persons as well).

       3. ‘BASIC’ course PACKAGE - 450€

  • Tuition fee and training material

  • Coffee Breaks
  • Cultural visit

Note: separate invoices for the training fee only (400 EUR) can be issued upon request from the organisation.
