Audio description and subtitles workshops
DOREA Team is inviting 5 people (residents of Cyprus) to take part in upcoming training courses. The training courses are a part of the Erasmus+ KA2 project “Audio description and subtitles against exclusion”.
The main goal of the project is to improve the qualifications and skills of the culture employees in creating audio descriptions and subtitles for the hearing impaired, but at the same time adjusting the program offer (by preparing audio description and subtitles) to the reception by the blind and deaf. Workshops on creating audio descriptions for films, performances, visual arts and subtitling will be organized. Training courses
- AUDIO DESCRIPTION IN VISUAL ARTS
Lithuania: 18th -24th October 2021 (including 2 travelling days)
Workshop participants will learn what audio description for visual arts is, get to know the needs of audio descriptors’ recipients and the workshop of audio descriptors’ work, they will gain knowledge from the technical (needed equipment) and practical side about creating and implementing audio description for visual arts, as well as the structures of properly created audio description formulated on the basis of identification of the type of work and analysis of recipients’ needs.
2. AUDIO DESCRIPTION IN THEATRE PERFORMANCES
Romania: 10th -16th of January 2022 (including 2 travelling days) – moved to 8th – 14th of May 2022
Workshop participants will learn what a theatrical audio description is, they will get to know the needs of audio descriptors’ recipients and the work of audio descriptors in the theatre, they will gain knowledge from the technical (needed equipment) and practical aspects of creating and implementing audio descriptions for theatrical performances, as well as get to know the structures of properly created audio description formulated on the basis of identification of the type of work and analysis of recipients’ needs.
3. AUDIO DESCRIPTION IN FILM
Latvia: 21st – 27th March 2022 (including 2 travelling days) – moved to 28th of March – 1st of April 2022
Workshop’s participants will learn about the necessary information and methodological background on audio description for film productions, which includes: classification of visual impairment, – examples of the application of audio description techniques in various areas of everyday life; types, standards, guidelines and norms for creating audio descriptions for audiovisual productions; methods of mood-building by differentiating the tempo and power of the voice, adjusting the tempo to the action, as well as information on how to harmonize the voice with other sound effects.
4. SUBTITLING FOR FILMS FOR THE HEARING IMPAIRED, THEATRE PERFORMANCES AND TELEVISION PROGRAMS
Cyprus: 6th – 12th June 2022 (including 2 travelling days)
Workshop’s participants will learn about types of hearing impairment (conductive hearing loss, total deafness, deaf-mute), learning the rule of professional subtitling for people with hearing impairment, supplemented by detailed information about the contact and needs of deaf recipients cultural activities.
Overall, participation in training will enable participants to acquire new competencies and skills, and will also allow them to broaden and acquire additional skills, change their professional qualifications and thus expand the cultural offer of their native institution. The knowledge from the workshop will allow the implementation of various artistic events in a comprehensive manner, providing recipients with sight and hearing disabilities on an international level. Extending the current offer with suggestions addressed also to the blind and deaf people will have a positive impact on the audience development and will minimize the effect of exclusion from the society of people with disabilities.
The travel, accommodation and meals are covered by the Erasmus+ programme.
Participants profile
Applicants should:
- have good English language skills (this will be the language used within the training);
- worker/volunteer in a cultural sector or with people with disabilities (preferably)
- have a strong motivation and interest to participate in workshops;
- have the ability to travel and attend all the workshops (force majeure situations are understandable)
